Today is the World Environment Day, and what better time for you to know the actions we perform in SILVERSEA containers, working every day to be more sustainablesin our processes and activities.
Thus, we ensure that our customers are also. Facilitating access to services, actions and materials that respect the environment.
Our maritime containers are used to transport cargo safely and store all types of goods for long journeys around the world.
Containers are the most voluminous and important part of the shipping industry. And that is why we have focused on developing a system that allows us to carry out our activity with the lower environmental impact.
For years, in SILVERSEA containers, we invest in resources that give a leading role to this green transformation so necessary, and this fills us with satisfaction
We want you to know what measures we have applied to be able to work together with our clients with the peace of mind of carrying out actions:
- With a responsible and sustainable production and consumption .
- Reducing polluting materials that damage the maritime or terrestrial ecosystem.
Manufacture of ecological maritime containers
In the manufacture of our containers we avoid the possible damage to the environment, and for this we use the latest in eco-friendly materials, composed of natural raw materials of vegetable and/or mineral origin.
Traditionally, containers were coated with zinc-based paints and wooden floors.
Maritime containers with paint eco friendly
The zinc-based paints and solvents they produce volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Chemicals that contain carbon and are found in all living elements.
They also contain hydrogen, oxygen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, sulfur or nitrogen, which are released in the form of vapors or gases during their decomposition process.
These volatile chemical compounds have an adverse effect on our health and that of the environment, as they are released into the sea and in the ground during the corrosion of the container causing irreparable damage to maritime and land life.
That is why the paints eco friendly that we use for our containers contain a minimum amount of solvents, which reduce potential damage to the oceans by up to 68%.
This type of paint is more resistant and needs fewer layers than the traditional zinc-based. As it creates a barrier that slows down water and oxygen, making the container more resistant to corrosion.
Containers with bamboo floor
In SILVERSEA containers, we also bet on the bamboo floors as an ecological alternative to wood.
The plants from which this material comes grow rapidly reaching maturity in 5 years at most.
A tiny amount of time, compared to the 20 years it takes a tree to be ready to be felled, and produce the wood commonly used on container floors.
The use of bamboo reduces deforestation. This way we guarantee that during the purchase, rental or shipment of your containers you also participate with your actions taking care of the planet.
Bamboo flooring is biodegradable and resistant like wood, but lighter and cheaper, allowing more cargo to be transported at a lower cost.
Recycling and reuse of maritime containers
A container can have a useful life of 25 to 30 years, but once its function is done it can be transformed and recycled for another purpose, such as the creation of spaces with different services or the construction of prefabricated ecological houses with containers, increasingly popular.
Reducing the carbon footprint
98% of the merchandise that moves around the world does so in maritime containers, but the bad practices of transport and storage these containers without merchandise aggravates the CO2 emission.
Choosing eco-friendly shipping containers with sustainable production and transport not only reduces environmental impact and carbon footprint, but can also reduce costs.
That's why SILVERSEA containers we always look for the greatest efficiency in our logistics processes.
Together with us you can be sure to work with a company that does not neglect its environmental impact, and to act by focusing on our well-being and that of the planet.
