What are the options when equipment is missing from the shipping lines?

Shipping companies, in a crisis, reconsider their empty supply system and result in a widespread lack of equipment.

Are these big companies the only owners of the containers?

The logistics of empty containers is a global problem, greatly influenced by international transport practices, governed by global trade patterns and mainly shaped by the interests of large shipping companies. The key reason for the accumulation of empty containers in ports is an import-oriented economy from some markets and the imbalance of an export-oriented economy in those same markets. One country supplies containers thanks to the flow of goods in and out of the same country and 80% comes from shipping. When we find ourselves in a crisis where countries reduce their exports and consequently others reduce their imports, the flow of containers that is moving has declined. Countries like Portugal/Spain that have been balancing their imports and exports are beginning to see the number of containers available to move their cargo reduced. Shipping companies, in a crisis, reconsider their empty supply system and result in a widespread lack of equipment. Well, this brings us to the question "if the shipping companies don't move the containers, won't we have containers?" Well, bad. This is where the role of container suppliers and SILVERSEA comes into play.

These are companies that have a lower volume of their own containers but are dedicated to supplying poor areas through 'container sharing'. SILVERSEA specializes in understanding markets and container flow to provide solutions to carriers or freight forwarders. Solutions including:

And this is the issue I want us to focus on!

When we decided to pick up a container at a shipping company or leasing company, we are accepting conditions that for many are unknown. In the case of shipping companies, if the destination of the cargo is a deficit container location, the container user will be paying (unconsciously) on freight a cost related to the future need to move it empty. In the case of container leasing companies, we are required to accept a much longer lease time than we will use the container, repair costs and even mandatory delivery locations that often represent an additional delivery cost for the shipper.

IN A MOMENT OF CRISIS, YOU HAVE TO BE CREATIVE!
